Lecture Content
Beyond the notes, rhythm and dynamics, articulation and pedalling choices can greatly vary the musical effect and interpretation of a piano piece. How, then, should we use the pedal when it comes to different composers and periods? Should we use or avoid the pedal when playing Bach? How does one decide on the articulation in Bach, or Mozart? Are legato approaches the same, from Bach to Debussy?
In this seminar, Bang Hean discusses the various approaches to pedalling techniques as well as articulations when playing pieces from different composers and styles. A ranger of pieces from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin and Debussy will be used to illustrate these approaches.
Lecture will be conducted in English, with Cantonese translation
